Reels
An open-reel recorder that records digitally. The −60 s key plays back what went by a minute ago, even if you were not recording.
● REC is the panel's own REC: the reels turn, the counter runs and the two VU meters follow the signal. The −60 s key starts the recording one minute before now, from the audio the recorder always keeps aside: the call you just heard is not lost.
▶ plays the last recording back and silences the receivers meanwhile. SPEED 15 runs it at twice the speed, like tape at 15 inches per second. Every file is named with the date, the UTC time and the frequency, or the room when you are on a voice network.
The controls
Every key and knob on the front, and what it does.

- Starts recording, like the panel's REC.
- −60 s
- Records starting one minute ago: nothing is lost.
- ▶ / ■
- Plays the last recording with the receivers muted, then stops.
- ◂◂ / ▸▸
- Rewinds and winds the tape forward.
- PAUSE
- Holds the tape without closing the recording.
- SPEED 7½ / 15
- Playback at normal or double speed.
- RESET
- Sets the counter back to zero.
