The short version

Etere.AI has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and the developer sells no data. What the app knows stays on your device, except what you choose to send to the radio networks you connect to and, if you switch on the AI operator, the requests you write to it.

Microphone

Etere.AI uses the microphone only while you hold the PTT key, to send your voice to the reflector, node, server or channel you selected.

Recordings you make with the record key are saved only on your device: in your Music folder on Mac, in the app's documents on iPhone.

Speech to text

With the DATA key set to TEXT, Etere.AI writes on the display what is said in the audio you receive. Recognition runs on your device with the speech framework built into macOS and iOS: the audio is not sent to us or to anyone else. The first time, the system may download the language model for your language.

Approximate location

To list the nearest public receivers first, Etere.AI can use your approximate location. It stays on the device and is never sent to us or to anyone else.

You can refuse. Etere.AI then uses a Maidenhead locator you type in Settings, or the time zone of your device.

Network connections

Etere.AI connects directly to services run by third parties: KiwiSDR, UberSDR, SpyServer, PhantomSDR, FM-DX Webserver and OpenWebRX receivers and their public directories, M17 reflectors, AllStarLink nodes, EchoLink, Mumble servers and Zello. Like any website, they see your IP address and what you send them, such as your voice, callsign or user name. Their own privacy policies apply.

To sign in to Zello, the app asks our token server for an access token that expires after two minutes. The request carries no personal data and we store nothing, apart from the standard technical logs of the hosting provider.

The OPER. operator

The operator works on the device by default, with a reader that understands simple orders. If you switch on the AI operator (it asks the first time; Settings turns it on or off), each request you write in the operator console goes to our server and from there to Mistral AI, in the European Union, together with: the radio's current state (mode, frequency, receiver and its location, signal level, RDS text, the latest decodes and speech transcriptions), the callsigns heard on the air, your local time and time zone, the earlier messages of the same conversation and the callbook cards you looked up (name, place, locator, distance and bearing from you). Our server passes the request on and keeps none of its content. Mistral AI processes it to write the answer, under its own privacy policy, and may keep it for a limited time to prevent abuse.

To count credits the app creates a random code that identifies no one and keeps it in your iCloud Keychain, so your Mac and iPhone share one balance. Our server stores that code with the balance, the credit packs bought (App Store transaction number, product and date) and a scrambled form of the network address that opened it, used only to limit free credits. No name, email or Apple Account. With the AI operator off none of this is sent.

Purchases

Modules and operator credits are bought inside the app through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and does not share your card or your identity with us: from Apple we receive anonymous sales totals and, for credits, the signed transaction the app forwards to our server.

Passwords and settings

Passwords and keys you enter for Zello, AllStarLink, EchoLink, HamQTH and QRZ.com are stored in the Keychain of your device and never leave it. Your callsign, user names, memories and preferences are stored in the app's settings on the device.

With iCloud sync on (Settings, you can turn it off), memories, favourites, callsign, Maidenhead locator and the HamQTH and QRZ.com user names are copied through your own iCloud account to your other Macs and iPhones. Apple's privacy policy applies to iCloud. The log and the passwords are never synced. None of this is sent to us.

Children

Etere.AI is not directed at children under 13.

Your rights

The only data we hold is the anonymous code with its balance and the packs bought, which identify no one: write to us if you want them deleted. You can delete recordings, settings and stored passwords at any time from the app and from your device.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
